The Story of Jesus: From Adam to the Cross

The Story of Jesus

The Beginning: Creation and the Fall

In the beginning, God created a perfect world where humanity lived in harmony with Him. Adam and Eve, the first humans, were given the freedom to enjoy God’s creation and walk in fellowship with Him. However, through their disobedience by eating the forbidden fruit, sin entered the world (Genesis 3).

This rebellion broke humanity’s relationship with God, introducing death and separation. Yet, even in their fall, God gave the first glimpse of hope—a promise that one day, a Savior would come to defeat sin and restore what was lost. God said to the serpent:
“He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel” (Genesis 3:15). This was the first prophecy of Jesus, the coming Redeemer.

God’s Covenant with Abraham

Centuries after Adam, God chose Abraham to be the father of a nation through which the promised Savior would come. God promised Abraham:
“Through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed” (Genesis 22:18).

This covenant revealed God’s plan to use a specific lineage to bring salvation to the world. Abraham’s descendants became the nation of Israel, through whom God’s promises would unfold.

Foreshadowing Through the Law and Prophets

As Israel grew, God gave the Law through Moses, which revealed His holiness and humanity’s need for redemption. The sacrifices and rituals in the Law pointed to the ultimate sacrifice that would be made by Jesus. The blood of lambs offered for sin symbolized the future sacrifice of the Lamb of God, who would take away the sins of the world (John 1:29).

Prophets like Isaiah and Micah foretold the coming of the Messiah:

  • Isaiah 53:5: “He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him.”
  • Micah 5:2: The Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, from the line of David.

These prophecies kept the hope of a Savior alive, even as Israel faced exile, oppression, and rebellion.

The Arrival of Jesus

In the fullness of time, God’s promise was fulfilled. Jesus, born of the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem, entered the world not as a king with earthly power but as a humble servant. His birth was announced by angels who declared:
“Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2:11).

Jesus’ life was marked by obedience to God and love for humanity. He:

  • Taught God’s Kingdom: Through parables and sermons like the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7).
  • Performed Miracles: Healing the sick, calming storms, and even raising the dead, demonstrating His divine authority.
  • Lived Without Sin: Unlike Adam, Jesus perfectly obeyed God’s will, becoming the spotless Lamb ready for sacrifice.

The Cross: The Fulfillment of the Promise

Jesus’ ultimate mission was to reconcile humanity to God through His death. On the cross, He bore the punishment for the sins of the world, fulfilling the prophecies and requirements of the Law. As He died, Jesus cried out:
“It is finished” (John 19:30), signifying the completion of God’s redemptive plan.

The cross became the bridge between God and humanity, where the sin that began with Adam was defeated through Jesus’ sacrifice. Paul writes:
“For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:22).

The Resurrection: Victory Over Death

Three days after His crucifixion, Jesus rose from the dead, proving His victory over sin and death. His resurrection secured eternal life for all who believe in Him:
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

From the Cross to Eternity

Jesus ascended into heaven, promising to return one day to fully restore God’s kingdom. In the meantime, He calls all people to repent, believe, and follow Him, offering forgiveness, hope, and new life.

The story of Jesus from Adam to the cross reveals God’s unwavering love and faithfulness. From the first promise in Eden to the ultimate sacrifice at Calvary, Jesus has always been the central figure of God’s redemptive plan—a Savior who reconciles, restores, and reigns forever.
